Beer bus from Chennai to Puducherry is prepared to board

This bus, which is a first of its sort, will transport guests to the former French colony for an experience with craft beer.

Chennai partygoers who regularly hit the road to Pondicherry (a former French colony, Pondicherry) for sun, sand and a pint of cold beer now have another reason to rejoice. Catamaran Brewing Co., the first microbrewery in Union Tritory, is launching a one-of-a-kind “beer bus” from Chennai to Pondicherry.

Priced at ₹3,000 per person, the beer bus, scheduled for its first service on April 22, will allow people to enjoy a three-course meal, unlimited craft beer and house tours. beer machine. But beware, beer will not be served on the bus, contrary to the social media posts that give the impression. Depending on first arrivals, the company plans to make it a regular.
According to Prasad Radhakrishnan, founder of Catamaran Brewing Co., the idea for the bus came about when a customer jokingly asked about a transfer service for tipsy travelers traveling from Chennai to Puducherry where beer is cheap. was that it would be safer for “The idea is to transport people safely from Chennai to Puducherry, experience the nuances of craft beer, and safely return to Chennai on the same day. It’s a good way for groups to come in,” he said. increase.
Last week, the company released promotional flyers for its "beer bath" that literally went viral on social media. “I didn't expect it to go viral like this. Some people ask me to run the bus regularly,” says Radhakrishnan with a laugh.
Radhakrishnan and his business his partner Rangaraju Narayanaswamy started working on his Catamaran Brewing Co. project in 2017. The two of them did a lot of research on breweries, scouted out locations, and worked on brewery licenses to arrange funding from friends and family. They got their license in 2019 and were just about to start when the Covid-19 pandemic hit a dead end. Catamaran Brewing Co. was officially incorporated in September 2021.Nine craft beers include Indian Summer (Belgian Whitbier), Hopsnami (Indian Pale Ale), Chingari Cider (dry cider) and Vox Potpourri (dark lager).
Radhakrishnan says craft beer, unlike commercial beer, is for enjoyment, not consumption. He said the trip is also educational as the brewers will explain to visitors how to turn a grain into beer. A gourmet experience also awaits visitors as the organizers will show how well beer pairs with the best of food.
But he is adamant that he will not serve beer on the bus. "We will have a zero tolerance policy and will not serve alcohol on the bus. Passengers who disturb others will be dropped off at the nearest bus stop,” he said. Now, that might ease the vertigo of the ride for some, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Kudo to someone?
